Examples of how CFD may be used to evaluate air quality, flow patterns, cleanliness or comfort in applications ranging from fusion reaction research to football stadiums.

In Vitro Isolation Room ... Analysis of a specialized clean room in a full-coverage laminar flow ceiling and peripheral exhaust grills. The black streaklines from the ceiling demonstrate a flow that is laminar and free of vortices. The objective of this study was to promote a one-way flow from the supply, to the bench, then to the exhausts. The concentration of airborne particulates and bio-aerosols could have also been evaluated here.

Automated Sterile Filling Room ... Analysis of an automated sterile clean room with laminar flow hoods over critical areas and standard HEPA ceiling diffusers in less critical areas. Return grills are provided continuously along several walls. Silver ribbon streaklines are used to show the air flow between supplies and returns. The objective of this study was to promote an efficient path from supplies to returns without vortices or a reversal of flow direction from the floor upwards.

Rotavirus Vaccine filling machine … A sterile rotavirus filling machine under a laminar flow hood and enclosure in a sterile clean room. The output shows pathlines flowing from the machine area out into the room without vortices or contamination.
