Examples of transportation projects include the following:
|
Equipment Management Facility, DOT Region 9,
Kirkwood, NY |
New 56,000 SF building was constructed following LEED for green/sustainable design and used a NYSERDA grant to provide incentives to include energy conservation measures including 16 geo-thermal wells to assist with heating and cooling the building. In addition, 30 kW of photovoltaic cells and a 60 kW micro-turbine helps to reduce peak demand loads on the building. In-floor radiant heating for maintenance bays assured comfortable working conditions and optimal operating cost. Low-E Glass, sunscreens building orientation and landscaping were also designed to limit or enhance solar gains depending on the season. The primary function of the facility is the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment utilized by the New York State Department of Transportation for highway maintenance. |

Design included electrical power, UPS and emergency power systems. The fire suppression systems include wet-pipe sprinklers for most of the building, fire pump and FM-200 systems for several large spaces housing sensitive electronic equipment. Award of Merit from the New York Construction Magazine for one of the best projects of 2004. |
