On November 9, 2012, National Philanthropy Day, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Genesee Valley Chapter selected M/E Engineering, P.C. for their "Outstanding Corporation" Philanthropy Award at the AFP annual awards luncheon.
M/E Engineering was nominated for the award by Monroe Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology and Rochester City School District STEM High School. M/E Engineering has donated funds and resources to these institutions to fund scholarships, support educational programs, faculty innovation and aid students in pursuit of a college education. "M/E Engineering is the perfect example of the difference a small but committed group of people can make" says Anne Kress, President of Monroe Community College, and "their commitment to the City of Rochester students inspires us all and shows students the way to a better life through education."
M/E Engineering is a business partner with the RCSD STEM High School at Edison. Al Casey (M/E President, Edison Tech and RIT Graduate and City of Rochester resident) works with Principal, Kathleen Denaro to set goals and initiatives for the STEM School Program and coordinate the school's interface with MCC and RIT to develop curriculum, assist with professional development and expose students to programs at these Colleges. In addition, M/E has two (2) Engineers that are currently working as mentors for the Edison Tech Robotics Team, helping them prepare for the upcoming FIRST Robotics Competition.
M/E established the M/E Engineering Scholarship at RIT in 1998 and at MCC in 2003. Both of these scholarships have always given preference to RCSD graduates. There are presently three (3) RCSD graduates at RIT and two (2) RCSD graduates at MCC that receive financial assistance through the M/E Engineering Scholarship Programs.
In accepting the award, M/E President Al Casey stated that "MCC and RIT are two of the City's greatest assets, and supporting these schools and their students is the best way to influence Rochester's future. Education is the linchpin - if we can make a difference and get the momentum moving in a positive direction, it will be a windfall for every business and individual in the area."
