Harris Corporation
JROC
Project
Complete MEP upgrades to an aging 573,000 SF facility to allow Harris to consolidate three (3) existing manufacturing facilities under a single roof The updated facility is a "focus factory" manufacturing environment with a 200,000 SF static controlled flexible electronic manufacturing space, support offices, R&D labs, warehouse, distribution and customer product service areas, This approach allows for improved efficiency and faster delivery of Harris systems that are deployed around the world.
M/E Role
The MEP systems range from state-of-the-art temperature and humidity control for the electronic manufacturing space to large open warehouse parts/product storage areas. Upgrades to the 2,800 ton central chilled water plant included variable speed primary/secondary pumping, looped chilled water piping and modifications to allow for 500 tons of "free cooling" during the winter. A looped duct system in the manufacturing area allow for energy savings during low load periods and redundancy in the event of a unit failure.
Challenges
Development of a highly flexible overhead grid for power, lighting, compressed air, nitrogen, data drops, cooling water, hot water and exhaust. These services were designed for a plug and play arrangement to meet the constantly changing manufacturing requirements.
