Potsdam State University College - Performing Arts and Technology Building

Project

Sited adjacent to the renowned Crane School of Music, the Performing Arts and Technology Building is an extension of Potsdam's commitment to the performing arts.  This facility will focus on educating undergraduates in using state of the art technology for theatrical performances.  The facility includes a 350 seat proscenium theatre, a black box theatre, dance performance space, movement studios, recording studios and elaborate back-of-house technical support spaces.

M/E Role

Design of complete M/E/P systems including radiant floor slabs, Kitchen/Café/Lobby Area, central VAV/reheat system, Lobby daylighting control and Recording Studios.  The Building is designed to a LEED silver rating and meets the vibration and NC requirements established by the acoustical consultants.

Challenges

Computational fluid dynamic modeling was used to reduce energy consumption, eliminate stratification and ensure proper operation of the Procenium Theatre, Black Box and Dance Spaces during all occupancies.
