North Syracuse Central School District - Smith Road Elementary
M/E Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services from initial concept development through final design and provided construction phase services for the renovation of a 62,000 SF Elementary School Building. The project included a 12,000 SF addition and complete replacement of all building mechanical and electrical systems. The new building systems incorporate numerous sustainable design elements including:
- Daylight Harvesting
- High Efficiency Boilers
- Displacement and Demand Control Ventilation Systems
- Exhaust Air Energy Recovery for almost 100% of the Building's Fixed Exhaust
- Variable Flow Refrigerant System
All classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology including interactive white boards and a 100% wireless and VOiP phone system. Summer cooling was highly desired by the school staff but was not budgeted for the project. Through value engineering and an innovative approach to the building's base heating and ventilating system, M/E was able to incorporate summer air conditioning into the project at minimal additional cost.
The renovated school project met NY-CHPS (Collaborative of High Performance Schools) Verified Status. This is only the second building in New York State and ninth in New England to reach this goal.
