Brockport State University College

New Academic Building

Brockport , NY

Project Highlights

The first new academic building on the campus in 40 years filling their needs for Liberal Arts studies.  The three story, 61,000 SF facility contains classroom, lecture, office, common and support spaces.  Departments included in the building are English, History, Modern Languages, Modern Cultures, Philosophy and Women/Gender Studies.

The building was designed with sustainable systems and concepts to benefit the campus which ultimately awarded the project a USGBC LEED Gold certification.

Challenges

Critical teaching spaces are located directly below the main building mechanical room. Additional design features were included to prevent unwanted noise from affecting the building primary focus of teaching. An impressive display of EE Cummings work required specialty highlighting display lighting that was also flexible for display variations.
