At M/E Engineering, we’re grateful for our exceptional and dedicated team whose talent and expertise fuel our mission to be a trusted partner, delivering lasting solutions for the built environment through strong relationships. This year, we’re honored to celebrate the well-deserved promotions of three new Principals.
Matthew Shannon, PE, Promoted to Principal

Matt joined M/E in 2002 and by 2019 had risen to the leadership team as Partner. His experience and design expertise span the academic, healthcare, industrial, and commercial fields, along with several unique industrial/manufacturing projects. Matt also manages the bulk of M/E’s work with SUCF and SUNY schools, and has led some of the firm’s largest, most complex projects within the higher education sector. His strong technical focus, confident leadership, and careful mentoring of his team create an environment of professionalism, cooperation, and trust necessary to making projects of this scale a success. For his dedication and hard work, Matt has been promoted this year to Principal.
“Matt's attention to detail and strong technical background are invaluable for the unique industrial and complex college/university projects he manages. His confident leadership and careful mentoring of staff create an environment of cooperation and trust between the staff and clients. In this environment, M/E can truly produce great projects! Our growing business welcomes his positive attitude on our leadership team."
John Dredger - President

Matt’s broad portfolio includes leading numerous projects for SUNY Binghamton and managing high-tech facility designs in the manufacturing sector. His design experience includes key projects like the MCC Downtown Campus, the RIT Golisano Institute for Sustainability, and the URMC Wilmot Cancer Center.
Matt is an active member of the Rochester Plant Engineers, serves on the Manchester Town Board, and volunteers as a coach for the Red Jacket Junior Baseball/Softball League. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Alfred State College and resides in Manchester.
Garrett Donals, PE, Promoted to Principal

In the 17 years since joining M/E, and then taking on a role as Partner, Garrett has led a multitude of the company’s projects in the educational, healthcare, industrial, and housing industries all across the Northeast. Much of M/E’s work and good-standing relationships with clients like Cornell University and Rochester Regional Health are owed to Garrett’s efforts and expertise. His dedicated leadership, technical knowledge, and reliability have not only made him an invaluable asset to the company, but earned him the recent, much-deserved promotion to Principal.
Garrett has led several high-profile projects, including notable work for Cornell University such as the Stocking Hall Rehabilitation, Thurston Hall Instructional Labs, and the New Experimental Hall for the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS). His project management experience also includes the Harold’s Square Mixed-Use Building in Ithaca, Midtown Manor in Rochester, and the Sencit Liberty Apartments in Atlantic City, NJ.
In addition to being an active member of ASHRAE, Garrett also volunteers his time at Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District as a coach for youth sports. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Syracuse University and lives in Honeoye Falls.
“Garrett's tenacious work ethic, positive demeanor, and dependability have become a valuable asset to our team. His strong technical background has been invaluable in assisting clients to successfully complete complex projects on time and in budget. His leadership qualities and commitment to guiding our staff have had an impact on M/E Engineering's success. We are extremely excited to have these talents as a part of our leadership team"
