Academic and Wellness Center

Daemen University

Formerly a YMCA Buffalo Niagara branch, the building was transformed into Daemen University’s new Academic and Wellness Center through a $5.6 million renovation. The two-story facility now serves as a hub for both academics and recreation, providing state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and multipurpose learning spaces for physical therapy, athletic training, and health care studies, as well as fitness and wellness areas for the campus community.

Design services included a full MEP/FP scope, with careful coordination to adapt systems within the structural limits of the existing building. A highly efficient VRF system was selected to provide heating and cooling suited to the renovated structure and building envelope. Lighting design balanced energy efficiency with architectural intent, using a mix of LED and fluorescent luminaires to reduce maintenance costs and capture utility incentives. The building exterior was illuminated with LED lighting to highlight the façade, enhance safety, and create a welcoming pedestrian environment.
