We are excited to announce that M/E Engineering has joined Salas O’Brien, effective October 2025. Our offices will remain under the same leadership, and our clients can continue to expect the same team and level of service. As M/E and Salas O’Brien work together, we believe clients will benefit from our combined expertise and geographic reach.
The Conventus Center is a seven-story, mixed-use medical office building on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, featuring street-level retail with medical offices and outpatient services above. M/E Engineering designed the MEP infrastructure for the core and shell, supporting future tenant fit-outs, and provided CFD modeling, sustainability services, and energy modeling.
Our CFD work addressed key design challenges: reducing CO levels in the underground garage ventilation system by 75% through redesign, supporting variance approval and long-term cost savings; modeling helicopter exhaust impacts on the planned hospital helipad; conducting detailed wind dispersion studies for exhaust stack placement; and analyzing pedestrian windscreen performance for safety and comfort.
The building’s systems include normal and emergency electrical power, four 500 kW diesel generators, lighting, fire alarm, fire protection, domestic water, boilers, closed-circuit coolers, and DOAS units with heat recovery. Parking garage systems incorporate CO/NO₂ monitoring and demand-controlled ventilation, with snowmelt systems for ramps and sidewalks.
Enhanced commissioning and energy modeling supported NYSERDA incentive funding and LEED Core & Shell Platinum certification. Tenant fit-outs designed by M/E included 95,000 SF for Kaleida Health’s Children’s Hospital Ambulatory Care Center, 60,000 SF for UBMD clinical space, and 50,000 SF for the University at Buffalo’s clinical administration offices.
