The Village Community Center serves as the central hub for students living in the University Village Townhouses at SUNY Fredonia. It houses the resident mailboxes, lounges, recreation rooms, meeting spaces, and the administrative office. Positioned in the middle of the housing development, the Community Center experienced severe wind issues, with high gusts damaging entrance doors.
Through wind modeling and analysis, prevailing wind patterns were identified as the root cause. A series of potential design simulations were tested under varying wind velocities and conditions, including options for a wind wall with arborvitae screening. Ultimately, the analysis showed that constructing a perpendicular storefront wall at the entrance provided the most effective solution.
Following our recommendations, the storefront wall was built, dramatically reducing wind gusts at the entryway. The improvement restored safe, reliable access for residents while maintaining uninterrupted student life.
