The work done in Stocking Hall is critical to the long-term competitiveness of New York’s agriculture and food system. The project scope included the construction of a new 90,000 SF Research Tower housing state-of-the-art laboratory spaces, a 19,000 SF Dairy Plant for use in the production of dairy products, renovation of the existing 44,000 SF Stocking Tower for use as office, support spaces and tasting laboratories and finally, renovations to approximately 14,000 SF of the existing Food Science Laboratory (FSL) Building to support research and pilot plant operations.
M/E was responsible for the HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design. Included in these services was comprehensive integrated holistic energy modeling used to make decisions regarding system selection and to support Cornell’s ongoing Energy Conservation Initiative and the Campus’s desire to become carbon neutral in the future. Additionally, CFD modeling was used to evaluate the dispersion of fume hood gases and to ensure the safety of occupants in Stocking Hall as well as those in surrounding buildings.
