SUNY Onondaga Community College was selected as a Micron Education Partner to support the semiconductor fabrication facility in Clay, New York. This partnership resulted in the creation of new academic programs to prepare members of the Central New York community for careers in the high-tech semiconductor manufacturing industry. The new labs provide students with direct, hands-on experience using the same advanced manufacturing tools found in professional chip fabrication facilities.
M/E was responsible for the MEP design associated with the renovation of the Whitney Applied Technology Center (WATC) to support the introduction of the new programs. The design included a cleanroom lab, mechanical technology space, welding labs, heavy equipment repair bay, as well as the replacement of outdated mechanical systems and the installation of a new cooling plant to serve the facility. Additional renovations included a new CNC lab, machine shop reconfiguration, HVAC/R training lab, and upgrades to student spaces.
