The Residential Mental Health Unit (RMHU) at Five Points Correctional Facility provides housing, programming, medical, and support services for maximum-security inmates with mental health challenges who might otherwise be placed in Special Housing Units (SHU). Operated jointly by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) and the Office of Mental Health (OMH), the facility enhances therapy, medical care, and overall programming for residents.
Designed to meet Executive Order 111 (EO 111) and LEED New Construction (NC2.2) Silver standards, the RMHU achieved LEED Gold certification. Key challenges included a compressed design and construction schedule, while integrating sustainable strategies without compromising correctional facility requirements.
