We are excited to announce that M/E Engineering has joined Salas O’Brien, effective October 2025. Our offices will remain under the same leadership, and our clients can continue to expect the same team and level of service. As M/E and Salas O’Brien work together, we believe clients will benefit from our combined expertise and geographic reach.
Hartford Hospital expanded its campus with a new five-story, 50,000 SF addition to the existing 13-story Bliss Building. The project enhanced a range of clinical services: relocating MRI suites to the first floor, adding pre-/post-op bays and single CCU rooms on the second and third floors, and creating new operating and hybrid operating rooms on the fourth floor. The ground floor houses mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, while also providing a covered patio adjacent to the hospital cafeteria. A mechanical penthouse and exhaust systems were designed to support the upper inpatient floors.
Full MEP/FP design services were provided, including HVAC with redundancy to maintain strict surgical environments, new medical air and vacuum systems, and fully redundant electrical systems with dual feeds, generators, and UPS backup. A digital control system integrates monitoring of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. To safeguard air quality, M/E also performed CFD wind-wake analysis to ensure contaminated exhaust would not impact hospital air intakes.
