Golisano Institute for Sustainability

Rochester Institute of Technology

The Rochester Institute of Technology Golisano Institute for Sustainability is for the newly created sustainability department at RIT. A design-build delivery method expedited the project due to the huge interest in the new sustainable curriculum. Spaces include classrooms, lecture hall, engine dyno, fuel cell test bed, microgrid system, environmental test rooms, decision theater, environmental chemistry lab, materials science lab, imaging test bed and offices. This project includes a 215,000 cfm smoke control system for the atrium to meet the stringent NYS and NFPA codes. The air volume was decreased by 40% from the code mandated by using CFD modeling.
