With an influx of new students participating in performing arts, design of RIT’s new Music Performance Theater is underway and on track to becoming a leading performing arts program in the nation for non-majors. The hope is that this new complex will foster the talents and creativity of RIT’s students, as well as provide the campus with a larger venue for concerts, talks, and other community events. Plans for the project’s first phase include a three-story, 750-seat theater, complete with two balconies and a restored, historic theater pipe organ.
The project’s second phase intends to feature an expanded lobby and a 1,500-seat orchestra hall able to accommodate a full philharmonic orchestra, large lectures, and other major events. M/E provided design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, house lighting, and power for the building was provided. Lighting design along with full building acoustical requirements were coordinated with full consultant team. Strict design requirements and coordination with the historical loft organ was one of the highlights to this campus changing project.
