The historic Sacred Heart campus has been transformed into the True Bethel Commons as an affordable housing development that repurposes the site dating back to the 1850s. The former school, convent, and rectory buildings were preserved and converted into 39 modern apartment units: 28 one-bedroom, 9 two-bedroom, and 2 three-bedroom units.
The $15 million renovation offers housing for low-income, elderly, and disabled residents in the community. Building amenities include a community room with a kitchen area, playground, secure bike storage, computer lab, and laundry facilities in each building.
M/E Engineering provided full MEP/FP design and construction administration services for the redevelopment. This included new systems for all apartments and common areas, ranging from high-efficiency heating and cooling systems to upgraded electrical service and LED lighting. Plumbing and fire protection systems were also fully modernized to meet current codes and enhance safety. All work supported compliance with Enterprise Green Communities standards and ensured long-term efficiency and comfort for residents.
