Sahlen Field Electrical Upgrades
City of Buffalo
Buffalo, NY
Project Highlights
This project involved replacing the electrical re-closure switches at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo, New York. Home to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, the Minor League Affiliate of the Major League Toronto Blue Jays, Sahlen Field is one of the largest and most historic ballparks in Minor League Baseball. The park holds the top six attendance records in Minor League history and is one of the top non-MLB parks to host Major League games. Sahlen Field was also the home of the Toronto Blue Jays during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The facility hosts a variety of concerts, events, and festivals.
M/E Role
The project scope included replacing the two (2) re-closure switches in the main electrical switchgear supplying power to the ballpark. These switches interrupt power if transient faults are detected to protect the connected equipment. They streamline maintenance efforts, enhance personnel safety and minimize downtime of the electrical distribution system. M/E Engineering, P.C. provided comprehensive engineering support services for the project including, but not limited to, kickoff meeting, design engineering and specifications, bidding assistance, construction observations, post construction review, system operation confirmation, final report closeout documentation. The work was carefully phased and scheduled with facility operations and the utility company so that power to the ballpark was maintained at all times.
