The Goodyear Residence

Historic Building Renovation

Buffalo, NY

Project Highlights

The Goodyear Mansion & Residences, located at 888 Delaware Avenue, is a historic landmark originally built in 1903 as a private home for the Goodyear family. Over the years, the property has undergone several transformations, including serving as an educational institution. Today, it has been fully converted into high-end apartments. The original front structure facing Delaware Avenue maintains much of its historic charm, with many of its decorative architectural features carefully preserved. Behind it, an extension which was formerly the Oracle School has been renovated into additional residential units, along with the adjacent Carriage House, totaling the number of apartments on the property to 49 units.

M/E Role

M/E Engineering designed the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems as part of this historic renovation. Tight ceiling space constraints required careful coordination of the building’s systems. Our HVAC design included gas-fired furnaces, air-cooled condensing units, heat recovery units, and gravity heating radiators with associated pumps and equipment. Plumbing included domestic water systems, recirculating hot water, sanitary waste and vent piping, as well as natural gas distribution. The building is fully protected by a wet-pipe automatic fire sprinkler system. Electrical systems were designed to include power distribution, lighting, telephone, data, television, audio/visual entry, security, IP surveillance, fire alarm, and in-building radio systems for fire department communication.
