Proctors Theatre - Expansion and Renovation

Project

Design for the restoration and upgrade of this historic theater that is listed on the “National Register”.  The project included the renovation of an adjacent 3-story department store, arcade and theater into a single entertainment complex.  This included renovation and addition to the existing historic Proctor’s Theatre with a large stage expansion to accommodate off Broadway productions, a new GE Theatre at Proctors multi-use large screen format theater, restored arcade and atrium, theater support spaces for costuming and set construction, and retail spaces.

Challenges

Two challenges were preservation of existing facades and arcade spaces while introducing air conditioning and recreating period lighting.  The incorporation of a new life safety design was incorporated into a computerized facility/energy management system.

Awards

M/E Engineering and Proctor's Theatre was honored in 2008 from the Preservation League of New York the "Excellence in Historic Preservation Award."
