Linde
Electrical Substation Replacement
Tonawanda, NY
Project Highlights
Linde (formerly Praxair, Inc.) is one of the world’s largest industrial gas suppliers, serving a wide range of applications including clean hydrogen production essential to the energy transition, life-saving medical oxygen, and high-purity and specialty gases for the electronics industry. The Tonawanda facility serves as a regional engineering and procurement center, supporting air separation, hydrogen and syngas plants, as well as research and development activities.
M/E Role
As primary consultant for the project, M/E led the design and coordination of a new electrical substation for the industrial facility. The 115 - 4.16kV, 14MVA dual-fed substation was constructed to feed the industrial facility with reliable power that also met industry compliance standards. Electrical work included utility coordination with National Grid, distribution structure design, connection to existing overhead lines, a phasing plan to minimize downtime, low-impedance grounding, 4160 V switchgear, and relay/SCADA system integration.
