Cornell University - Geneva Food Research Lab at the NYS Experimental Agriculture Station
The project consists of a complete whole sale renovation of the building in order to upgrade and update the facility into a new state-of-the-art food science and agricultural science laboratory facility. The program incorporates microbiology, chemistry, vinification, brewing, food engineering, tree fruit genomics and various extension and outreach functions including a 7,000 SF pilot plant.
M/E was responsible for the complete design of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. The systems also included the necessary central plant equipment to support the building. Additionally, CFD modeling was utilized for wind wake analysis as well as for interior lab airflow modeling to reduce air change rates. The building is anticipated to earn a Gold Rating from the U.S. Green Building Council under the LEED 3.0 system.
