New York State Court of Appeals - Modernization and Addition

Project

Program study, final design and construction phase services for the addition and renovation of the historic New York State Court of Appeals Facility in Albany, NY. The scope of which includes 22,000 SF of additions, major renovations of the existing 65,000 SF Historic structure and construction of a 16,000 SF two-level below grade parking structure. Project includes complete replacement of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, CCTV, security and data telecommunications systems during this phased construction project.

M/E Role

Design of new HVAC systems, including central boiler system, chilled water plant and automatic temperature controls. Complete new electrical service and distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security/CCTV/access control and telephone/data distribution; complete plumbing retrofit and new fire protection systems throughout.

Challenges

Providing a design to accommodate the existing historic structure and to allow for the complete replacement of H/P/FP/E systems while maintaining the operation of the Court Room of New York State's Highest Court.
